Police Chief Scott D. Benton announces that the Whitman Police Department will be hosting a two-day instructor course on ALICE active shooter response training.
The training will teach those who attend to become certified ALICE instructors. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate.
The course teaches proactive, options-based strategies that increase the chances of survival during a violent intruder or active shooter event. Those who attend the course can take the strategies they have learned back to their workplace or organization and instruct others on how to safely respond during such an event.
The cost of the course is $595 and is open to the public, including parents and residents. Those who would like to attend can register at www.alicetraining.com

Town Clerk Dawn Varley announces that nomination papers for the May 19, 2018 Annual Town Election were available as of Monday, January 29, 2018. Town offices that will appear on the ballot are : One Town Clerk for Three Years; One Selectmen for Three Years; One Assessor for Three Years; Two PK-12 Whitman-Hanson Regional School District Committee Members for Three Years; One Department of Public Works Commissioners for Three Years; Two Public Library Trustees for Three Years; One Planning Board Member for Three Years to fill vacancy; One Board of Health Member for Three Years. Nomination papers must be returned with 50 valid signatures of voters by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

Friday, February 23, 2018 at 8 p.m. is the final day and hour to register to vote for the Special Town Election to be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m
Registration also takes place daily in the Clerk’s office, Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. And every Tuesday until 7:30 p.m.
Mail-in voter applications must be postmarked by February 23, 2018. You may also register to vote online at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleidx.htm
