[ARCHIVED] Whitman Fire Deputy Chief Graduates from Fire Officer Management Training Program

Chief Timothy J. Grenno is pleased to announce that Whitman Fire Deputy Chief Al Cunningham graduated from the 26th Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program on Thursday, Jan. 31.
Deputy Cunningham was one of 37 fire service members to graduate from the program during a ceremony at the Department of Fire Services headquarters in Stow.
The intensive 14-week program provided training in several aspects of leading and managing fire departments, including human resource management, ethics, executive
leadership, legal issues, governmental and organizational structures, budgets and public finance, community awareness and labor relations.
Deputy Cunningham was appointed to the Whitman Fire Department in 1998, appointed to Lieutenant in 2009, and to Deputy Chief in 2019.
He resides in Whitman with his wife and family.
“Deputy Cunningham has been a valuable member of our department for more than 20 years,” Chief Grenno said. “He has shown tremendous leadership qualities and
continues to protect and serve the members of the Whitman community.”
The communities represented by other graduates in the class included: Ashburnham, Ashland, Athol, Belmont, Braintree, Brookline, Carver, Concord, Dennis, Dudley,
Duxbury, Duxbury, Easthampton, Falmouth, Foxborough, Hanover, Harwich, Holyoke, Hull, Leverett, Mansfield, Massport, Melrose, Needham, North Reading, Onset, Sharon, Somerville, Stoneham, Sturbridge, Tewksbury, West Bridgewater, West Brookfield, Westborough, Wilbraham, and Yarmouth.
